This is "the spot". The one spot on this side of the ranch where you might get lucky to get a little cell service. So I threw on my tennis shoes and walked there from the cow camp in the late afternoon one day this last June. I got lucky, and made a few important calls.
Pio was antsy. We were waiting a good bit back on this particular morning and boy was he itching to hustle up to the herd, push them through the gate and past the cattle guard. He knew he was close to home and he tried to pack his hustle, just like chefs do right before we are heading into service.
Locally where I live, there’s not many places to get such live action training! So we drove an hour south towards San Diego to Action K9 Sports to undergo an instinct test.
Horse ears can tell you so much and I'm not exactly sure what caught Red Hot's attention but it was enough to make me look too. He stayed with forward ears long enough that allowed me to pull out my camera and snap the quiet focused moment
I always start to psych myself out that because of the wind it’s going to be more difficult, but it’s amazing when you stop thinking about it and just relax and ride, you start catching and it turns out to be an awesome day.
