FAQs: Cowgirl Cookie Co.

HOW MANY COOKIES ARE IN A ½, 1, 2, or 4 POUND TIN?

The truth? We overfill our tins. You get what you pay for and on likely 95% of our orders or more, we overfill our tins to just make sure they are full. So even though you order just a 1 pound tin for example, once we go to weigh it and make your postage, it often weighs much more than what you originally ordered. Now when it comes to our special cookie collections outside of our regular catalog line up within the Cowgirl Collection, there too, it’s not the count that matters but the weight. So some cookies are a lot smaller but you’ll get a lot more of them simply because a larger quantity fit in the same size tin but you’ll get the weight that you pay for, and then some – always.

DO YOU SELL SAMPLER TINS OF COOKIES? OR MIX DIFFERENT FLAVORS OF COOKIES SO WE CAN TRY MORE THAN ONE IN AN ORDER?

This is a great question and as a company, we made a tough decision to really ask ourselves what’s important in delivering to our clients a delicious and perfectly made cookie. So here's the skinny on the samplers, and why we decided not to have this as an offering.

Because we are an online boutique our only method of cookie delivery is to ship to those not located in our local area, shipping various cookie flavors together, well, the little beauties just don’t travel well side by side. Cookies are funny little creatures in so far as one cookie has more moisture than the other (chewy) and the one which doesn’t have it (crispy), will suck the other one dry! It’s crazy how that works, but they fight for it and don’t share well. Much like you put a piece of bread in with some brown sugar to soften the brown sugar if it gets too hard (little kitchen tip there), the same thing holds true for all baked goodies, they just don’t have a fighting chance! So as a company, we decided that for them to arrive less than intended would be disappointing for you and us both. Other companies will do that sort of practice for the sake of sales, but for us, to compromise on the quality just goes against our mission of getting you the best cookies and for what we know as chefs, is best practice. So to preserve their individual freshness and character, the cookies are hand-packed separately from each other in our signature tins with baking parchment. It preserves the freshness longer, you won’t get the flavor transfer from one cookie to another and the cookies arrive as they were intended to be...

WHAT SIZE ARE YOUR COOKIES?

Well, we use a 1.5 ounce scoop to hand-shape all our cookies but because of the different types of dough and how they bake, some end up shorter, taller, flatter, thinner, fatter, rounder, and every shape in between. So each cookie roughly weighs that amount but some will look larger than their cousins simply because of how they bake up differently. This too is another reason why we don’t mix cookie flavors in our tins as to get them all to fit properly together, it’s best when they are all the same size so our clients get the most value for their purchase.

DOES THE COWGIRL COOKIE CO. OFFER SUGAR FREE, VEGAN, OR VEGETARIAN STYLE COOKIES?

We apologize but not at this time.

DO YOU OFFER INDIVIDUAL SAMPLES OF OTHER COOKIE FLAVORS?

With each of our orders, we try to include a little surprise of another cookie flavor sample. Our clients write us and say a huge thank you for including the extras and we always try to do that as little “thank you” when we can. You see, we only bake that day, what we have orders for. So if we just happen to over bake a few cookies, more than what will fit properly in a tin, then we always try to include them into another clients order to give them a flavor they perhaps didn’t order. So the quick answer is YES, we offer these but it’s just by luck of the draw. We don’t have this every day but if we’ve over-baked, you can be sure no cookie goes to waste and we’ll pass on the goodness to you!

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO TAKE CARE OF MY COWGIRL COOKIE CO. GOODIES?

Your Cowgirl Cookie Co. cookies should be kept in a cool, dry, and dark (preferably “undisclosed” so they last longer), location that’s around 65°F. Like a great wine, these cookies are just happier when they are stored properly with their tight fitting lid in place and securely closed. We specifically send your cookies to you in a tin because it’s the best way to keep air, light, and cookie monsters away! Your cookies will stay quite fresh for about 10-14 days, that is of course if they even last that long…

CAN YOU EAT THE COOKIES COLD?

Another great option to preserve freshness even longer is to simply pop your tin of cookies in the freezer and again, with that lid securely shut. They are yummy to eat ice cold, if you aren’t patient enough to thaw them (like us). And, if you are the patient type and more of a cookie purist, do remove you cookies from the freezer and just thaw them naturally at room temperature for about 25 minutes.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO SERVE THE COOKIES WARM?

For those of you who have to have them warm (to simulate freshly baked), pop your cookie in the microwave on full power for about 10-15 seconds depending on how fast your oven works. Grab a glass of ice-cold milk to enjoy with them and it might be like you even baked them yourself…

I LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE THE WEATHER IS VERY HOT.  WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I RECEIVE MY GOODIES IN THE MIDDLE OF A HEAT WAVE?

Now we reckon it’s a good thing to get goodies from the Cowgirls all year long but during those scorching summer days when the sun just isn’t quitin’ any time soon we want provide you with a few details of consideration. Now, chocolate gets quite melty during those warmer months and if you aren’t home or your giftee isn’t available to receive their goodies and if they are just left out in the heat upon delivery as most parcels are, do this and both you and your goodies will be in good shape. Simply unpack your tin of cookies, brownies, whatever it maybe that might be on the melty side and just pop it into the icebox (refrigerator) for a couple of hours without opening the tins first to get the chocolate a chance to firm back up… It will set up right quick and your goodies will be good to go and that’s how we like you to have them.  And so you have it, proper cookie and goodie care. Not too hard, but just good to know.
